Senior Strategist AND Lead Writer

Mary Hutchinson is a leader in nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of managing multimillion-dollar corporate and foundation relationships, grantmaking, and development department management. Since joining Social Capital, Hutchinson has served as senior strategist and writer to leading nonprofits, including American Red Cross, Best Friends Animal Society, Americares, Feeding America, Ronald McDonald House Charities, UNICEF USA, United Way Worldwide and World Wildlife Fund.

Prior to Social Capital, Hutchinson served as Feeding America’s first Deputy Development Officer, Vice President of Philanthropy Operations. In this role, she managed multifaceted relationships with the organization’s top corporate and foundation partners and oversaw philanthropic operations. She also led the team that established and developed Feeding America’s grantmaking, which was granting more than $30 million to the food bank network annually. During her 2005 to 2010 tenure, annual fundraising revenue more than doubled, and Hutchinson held direct responsibility for establishing and stewarding Feeding America’s relationship with The Lincy Foundation, resulting in two gifts totaling $41 million, the largest-ever contributions to Feeding America at that time. Hutchinson also led Feeding America’s inaugural relationship with Charity Projects Entertainment Fund, the philanthropic arm of “Idol Gives Back,” which featured Feeding America during “American Idol” special fundraising shows and raised millions of dollars through corporate sponsorships and individual contributions. Finally, Hutchinson supported Feeding America’s first relationship with the Kresge Foundation and a multimillion-dollar program-related investment.

Hutchinson currently serves on the Board of Directors of West Suburban Community Pantry in Woodridge, Illinois. Hutchinson earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MPA from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, specializing in nonprofit management.
