Engagement Everytown for Gun Safety - Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America

A senior executive of the nation’s leading gun violence prevention organization Debbie Weir has more than 28 years of proven success in nonprofit management in the areas of capacity building programs and services fund development marketing and communications advocacy strategic planning and expanding visibility and influencing stakeholders to support mission priorities.

As Senior Managing Director Organizing and Engagement since November of 2017 Weir has led the grassroots fight for gun safety in Washington in statehouses and with corporations and other strategic partners across the country. With nearly six million supporters and thousands of volunteers Weir has focused on developing and executing the strategy for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and the Everytown Survivor Network at both the national and state levels. She has overseen the implementation of new initiatives to develop programs focused on safe gun storage firearm suicide prevention and partnerships within the corporate and medical communities.

Before joining Moms Demand Action Weir served as the Chief Executive Officer of Mothers Against Drunk Driving ®MADD© leading the network of more than 200 MADD affiliates across the U.S. and spearheading efforts to end drunk driving help fight drugged driving serve the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking. 

Weir joined MADD’s National Organization in 2002 as Vice President of Victim Services and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2005. Her proven leadership led her to be promoted to MADD CEO in March 2012. MADD has helped to save nearly 380,000 lives and has been a significant force in reducing drunk driving deaths by more than 50 percent. Under her leadership the number of victims MADD served each year more than doubled—serving one victim every 15 minutes.

Weir serves on the Safe Kids Worldwide National Board of Directors. Safe Kids Worldwide is a global organization dedicated to protecting kids from unintentional injuries the number one cause of death to children in the United States. Throughout the world almost 1 million children die of injuries each year. Weir is a member of the One Love Foundation National Advisory Board. One Love Foundation was established to honor Yeardley Love who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend in 2010. One Love’s mission is to change the stats around relationship abuse by giving every young person a foundational understanding of the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships.
